When I last left us we were in the Gobi Desert. After an hour ride on the Land Rover, an hour and a half flight to Ulanbaatar and a six hour flight here, we've arrived in Myanmar. Whew. And with still enough light left to tour the spectacular Shwedagon pagoda. It's hot, humid and a bit rainy -- quite a difference from Mongolia.
Shwedagon pagoda is a complex of one huge gold pagoda surrounded by literally thousands of smaller stupas filled with Buddhas and other statues. Here's just a sample: an exquisite jade Buddha ...
and a really large reclining Buddha.
Several monks in addition to locals (and Western tourists) ...
and, on the way out, a rear view of a huge dragon. Quite realistic.
That's it for Yangon. Tomorrow we fly an hour to Inle Lake in the interior of Myanmar for two days. We'll see if there's internet there!
