View from the Campinile

After leaving the Doge's Palace we rode an elevator to the top of the Campinile. I'm fuzzy on when it was first built, but Debb says it collapsed and was later rebuilt. Maybe that's why it has such a good elevator. But obviously the attraction is the views it affords of Venice.

Here's looking down at St. Mark's Square, with the city stretching off behind.

You get a sense of how packed in everything is, separated only by canals or alleys. You get the feeling you could just traverse the city by running from rooftop to rooftop!
